Formosa PapayaSurprisingly arranged for you!
Slightly less known, but certainly no less popular: Formosa Papaya. Kraaijeveld recently started directly importing this variety of papayas. In this article we take you through the three pillars of surprisingly arranged for you: the source, the process and the customer.
The source of Formosa Papaya
The Formosa papaya is a special variety that comes from Taiwan. However, our Formosa Papayas come from Brazil. Brazil is an excellent country for growing Formosa papayas for several reasons:
Brazil has a tropical and subtropical climate, which is ideal for growing papayas. These fruits thrive in warm temperatures and abundant sunshine, which is plentiful in Brazil.
The fertile soil in many Brazilian regions provides the necessary nutrients for the growth of healthy and tasty papayas. Specific regions such as the state of Espírito Santo are known for their fertile agricultural land that is perfect for papaya cultivation.
Brazil has a long history and a lot of experience in growing papayas. This expertise translates into efficient cultivation methods and high quality standards, resulting in excellent quality fruits.
Brazil has abundant water resources, essential for irrigating papaya plantations. This ensures that the plants can grow consistently, even in drier periods.
Brazil has one of the largest and most advanced agricultural sectors in the world. The infrastructure, technology and logistics capabilities support efficient production and distribution of papayas.
These factors together make Brazil an ideal country for growing Formosa papayas, which contributes to a constant supply of high-quality papayas to Kraaijeveld. The season runs from January to January, so these fruits are available all year round. We work together with a reliable supplier, who also supplies our wide range of melons: Agricola Famosa.
The process of Formosa Papaya
Our supplier in Brazil ensures that a new freshly packaged load of Formosa Papayas comes our way every week. The papayas arrive in the Netherlands by boat or by air freight. The difference between boat and air freight is that the Papayas by boat have a color scale of 2 and greener. The papayas that arrive by air freight have a color scale of 3+. There is still mainly flying, but by boat it is certainly possible, depending on the season.
