Stepping into the summer with Spanish melonsWhen are you tasting them?
Summer is approaching, which means we can get our melons from closer to home. In the regions of Almeria and Murcia, the finishing touches are put on our melons, after which they are harvested and transported. Welcome to the Spanish melon season!
The first Spanish melons available
The first Spanish watermelons have arrived, which means that the Spanish season is slowly starting! In weeks 18 to 24, our watermelons will come from Almeria. From week 25, the melons will come from the Murcia region. We will receive the Galia and Cantaloupe melons from Spain in weeks 20 and 21.
The last melons from Honduras
We expect the last Honduran Galia and Cantaloupe melons at the end of week 19. After this, we will have to wait for the next Honduran season, which will start again around Christmas. In the meantime, we are developing new products behind the scenes. That's why the representatives came by for a melon tasting. See you next year, Mike's Melons!
What do you think about overseas melons during summer?
We have years of experience in supplying the processing industry. For this we have optimized
our process and we are always working to locate problems in the production process. We always look for the right solution for this! A problem that traditionally comes back in the summer is that the Spanish and Italian melons do not have the quality that you and we would like to see. This mainly concerns the hardness of the melon.
That is why we now also have overseas melons available during the summer months, also possible on a contract basis! The quality of these melons will be more stable and significantly better for processing. The melon is not only harder, the skin is also better and the melons are better calibrated (sorted by size).
